Heavy snow was expected to hit Portage County Monday night (March 13) and last through today (March 15), the National Weather Service predicted.
Widespread snow -- possibly 5 to 9 inches -- was expected to fall, and temperatures were expected to be in the mid-20s. The storm was expected to affect all Lorain, Medina, Summit, Trumbull and Portage counties.
Difficult driving conditions with very poor visibility and snow covered roads were expected, along with northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.
Wednesday night snow showers (tonight) also are likely, mainly before 8 p.m. By Thursday (March 16), the temperature should reach about 30 degrees.
During weather such as this, the American Red Cross recommends filling up vehicle gas tanks and bringing pets and other animals indoors or into shelter.
Temperatures are predicted to moderate into the low 40s by Friday and throughout the weekend.
